Last August 2nd, at 7:01 am, line 3 of the Basel tram network crossed the border for the first time into Switzerland, at Bourgfelden. Alain Girny, President of the Saint-Louis urban area; Hans-Peter Wessels, State Councillor and Director of the Construction and Traffic Department (BVB) of the canton of Basel; Sébastien Lopez, Project Manager; and several technicians who had worked on the construction of the line, walked alongside the tram all the way to Saint-Louis station. This first run marked the start of a 10-day testing period. Training sessions for the 500 drivers of the BVB, the long-time operator of Basel’s tramway, begins on September 1st and will continue until the public opening on December 9th.
